Answer:Thanks for contacting us. I cannot say for sure about colloidal silver being able to treat MRSA. But I DO know that the type of Silver Sol that I have used successfully for years does. I fact, in the US, it has FDA approval claiming it can be used for MRSA, MERS and several other big bad microbes. In Canada, it has an NPN designation from Health CA. Niether of these are easy to get without volumes of research to back up the claims. This article may help you understand why and how they are different. Silver Sol, Colloidal Silver, The Differences & Facts

How Does Silver Solution Work?
As mentioned above, Silver Shield/Silver Guard works by 3 separate mechanisms to stop the growth and spread of harmful pathogens. Peer studies have shown Aquasol silver to be effective on over 600 bacteria, viruses, yeast and fungus, including Malaria, MRSA, Avian flu, limb regrowth, Swine flu, burns, Lyme & MS
- Silver Oxide
The silver oxide coating of the nano-particle kills bacteria by pulling away one of the electrons on the bacteria cell membrane, which contributes to the rupture of the membrane and ultimate death of the cell. This is also how the older generation Liquid Silver worked, but in the case of Liquid Silver, once the silver oxide had pulled an electron away from the bacteria cell, it stopped functioning. The new Silver Shield has a double + charge on the silver molecule (explanation in FAQs below). This double charge, coupled with the fact that the silver in Silver Shield exists as a core of pure silver metal with an oxide coating on the outside, allows for this reaction to regenerate itself, so that one silver particle kills many bacteria, instead of just one bacteria.
- Resonance
The silver particles in Silver Shield resonate at a frequency of 890 – 910 THz. This is the exact same frequency used in blue germicidal lights in laboratories. The silver sol nano-particles are small enough to get in close proximity to a virus or bacteria. The “good vibrations” of their resonant frequency will rupture the bacterial or viral cells without damaging surrounding healthy tissue.
- Magnetic Viral DNA Disruption
Silver Shield works by its electromagnetic charge. The silver nano-particle is magnetically attracted to the virus and overpowers its DNA, rendering the virus impotent and unable to replicate. Viral DNA has a slight magnetic charge while healthy DNA does not, so healthy cells remain unaffected by the Silver Shield.

Q: What are the ingredients of Silver Shield?
Silver Shield is manufactured solely from high purity water and high purity silver metal, with no other ingredients involved.
Q: How is the gel manufactured? What are the extra ingredients in it?
Silver Shield Gel is manufactured by taking the Silver Shield solution and adding a gelling agent and triethanolamine. The gelling agent is declared on the label by its INCI name, acrylates\C10-30 alkyl acrylate crosspolymer (we are required by law to declare cosmetic ingredients by their INCI nomenclature). The triethanolamine acts as a surfactant (emulsifying agent) to keep the gel stable under all conditions.
Q: How is the silver oxide coating created?
The patented manufacturing process causes very small silver particles to be formed – about 90% between 0.05 microns and 0.15 microns – and the high energy environment in which they are formed causes these particles to acquire a surface layer of a multi-valent silver oxide (empirical formula AgO, molecular formula Ag4O4). The product may also contain a small amount of ionic silver (as silver nitrate) and a few particles larger than 0.15 microns. (A micron is one-millionth of a meter).
Q: How can the silver have a 2+ charge? I thought silver had only a 1+ charge?
Purely ionic silver compounds such as silver nitrate or silver chloride occur with silver having a 1+ charge. As mentioned in explaining how the silver oxide coating is created, the molecular formula for the oxide is Ag4O4, translating to an empirical formula of AgO. Oxygen occurs with a 2- charge, so in order to achieve electrical balance, the silver in this case must have a 2+ charge.
Q: Is Silver Shield a colloidal silver or not?
The best scientific description of this complex mixture is a hydrosol. Most of it could accurately be described as a colloid, and up to two or three percent of the silver may exist in ionic form.
Q: The Silver Shield label has a warning about thyroid medications and antibiotics. Can someone take Silver Shield if they are already taking these medications?
When we first developed the label for the Canadian market we consulted several different sources of information for contraindications, warnings and known risks, keeping in mind that Health Canada is overly cautious in requiring this kind of information on our product labels.
We found reliable scientific databases that advised there was a theoretical concern that colloidal silver products could interfere with the absorption of both thyroid and antibiotic medications.
The Natural Medicines Comprehensive Database’s monograph for silver issues cautions against concomitant use with levothyroxine (synthroid) and certain antibiotics. These cautions are all based on theoretical consideration of the pharmacology of colloidal silver. In each case, the caution is that taking silver with these medications at the same time could reduce the absorption of the medication, making it less effective. The US parent does not advertise these cautions on their label and the US and Canadian products are exactly the same. We know from Dr. Pederson’s presentation that the silver actually makes antibiotics more effective. We still felt it was best to put this warning on the label to begin with, since Health Canada would most likely require us to add it before a product licence was granted (our Product Licence Application is under review as of this writing). The best advice at this time is that in order to avoid any possible interactions, patients should take the Silver Shield and their thyroid or antibiotic medications two hours apart.
Q: Is Silver Shield safe for pregnant or nursing mothers? There is a warning on the label against this.
Information presented during the product launch would seem to indicate that the Silver Shield would be acceptable for use in these cases. However, medical databases we have consulted advise caution, saying there is inadequate testing of silver compounds in these cases. That is also the standard position of Health Canada. It is somewhat paradoxical, because no pregnant or nursing mother will ever volunteer herself as a test subject to find out if some ingredient or product is harmful to herself or her child. So it is unlikely that ‘adequate testing’ will ever happen. Almost ALL pharmaceuticals state that they are not tested on pregnant or lactating women or children or the elderly, yet they are prescribed frequently to these groups.
Our best advise is to consult your natural health care professional in these cases.
Q: If I take too much silver, will I turn blue?
No. The famous “blue man” who made the news in early 2008 was making his own silver solution at home and drinking it every day for many years. There are many internet sites that advertise “Make your own silver solution” as well. We would strongly advise our customers not to do that, and to leave the manufacture of these products to the professionals. In the case of home-made products, there would be a lack of quality control to say the least!
Q: Is the silver toxic?
No. Upon ingestion, silver compounds are known to clear out of the body by 90 to 99% by the second day after ingestion. Silver Sol TM passes through the body via the urine with no toxic metabolites. Research suggests you would have to take Silver Shield every day for more than 200 years before it built up to exceed .05mg/kg.
Q: Is the silver organic?
No. By definition, metallic elements and their oxides are not organic.

Successes with Silver Gel
A 72 yr. old man, had a bad accident when he was a teenager, that crushed his leg from the knee down. In the last few years his foot was chronically infected, he took many rounds of antibiotics. The infection and redness had spread from foot up to his knees. Finally the medical suggestion was amputation just above the knee. Shingles and Herpes
Shingles is a latent form of the Herpes or Varicella Zoster Virus, reactivated from previous chicken pox, or contracted when one does not have the natural immunity developed from exposure. The virus lies dormant in the nerve cells adjacent to your spinal cord and can reactivate under various conditions. Known triggers for reactivation are: STRESS, which can be from emotional causes or from a physical cause such as trauma or injury. Stress, lack of sleep, poor diet, or other illness can all weaken the immune system.
Shingles appear as a painful rash and/or itching blisters, running in a band or belt, usually confined to one side of the body or face. This can be accompanied by fever, aches, and general malaise. Although shingles is not contagious itself, the rash gives off the varicella zoster virus, which could cause someone who comes into contact with it to develop chicken pox.
Allopathic medical treatment prescribes medications to treat the symptoms of shingles. These may be antivirals or corticosteroids in severe cases. The drugs can be expensive, may or may not work depending on how soon they are started, do not help ward off future attacks, and carry the risk of side effects or potential drug interactions associated with every prescription.
One natural regime, which is outlined below, has produced excellent results with acute shingles attacks and rashes of many types, including those caused by severe drug reactions, such as man-made antibiotics.
IF-C is a Chinese herbal formula developed by Dr. Sabuti Dharmananda for relieving and clearing all conditions of excess heat, including rashes, pain, head-aches and sinus infections. In Chinese terminology, these conditions are classed as “heat-rising”. Herpes
Besides shingles, there are many other types of herpes virus, which affect a very large percentage of the population, up to 60%. Herpes simplex 1, cold sores, can occur on any part of your body including nose, elbows, fingers, stomach, or anus. Genital herpes is called Herpes simplex 2, but it is really just a different form of the same disease, and one can cause the other. Some people have sub-clinical, subtle outbreaks and can shed the virus even when they are asymptomatic, which is one reason this disease has become so prevalent.
Herpes can be effectively treated by a combination of diet, stress reduction and herbal medicine or by drug therapy. Although allopathic medicine says there is no cure, it is possible to go years between outbreaks with management using natural therapeutics.
For all types of herpes, including shingles, consider a program of HRP-C (CA) VS-C (US) for three months, at 6 – 9 per day. Dosage is dependant upon your size, the severity of condition, personal immune status, and lifestyle. HRP-C is a Chinese formulation developed by a Chinese medical doctor, to address Herpes virus, AIDS, and all other viral stressors, which include the common cold and flu. It helps increase overall immunity, and detoxify the liver and eliminate heavy metals. It is also very effective for Candida and other yeast/ parasitic infections.
For regular or periodic herpes, the above dosage of HRP-C can gradually be lowered after 3 months, until a maintenance dose keeps herpes under control. This dosage will be different for everyone, dependent on their size, other aspects of lifestyle and overall health. L-Lysine (US) , an essential amino acid, can also be taken at a dosage of three 500mg. capsules per day during an outbreak, and one per day as maintenance. Use some thought when supplementing one particular amino acid for long term, as all amino acids work in synergy. If however, you have some other symptoms of l-lysine deficiency, such as a feeling of helplessness, fatigue, nausea, dizziness, anemia or depression, maintenance with l-lysine may help alleviate these symptoms. L-lysine can be found in fish, chicken, eggs, garbanzo beans and comfrey.
For External Relief: HRP-C /VS-C in liquid glycerine form can be applied to sores. Tei Fu Oil or Tei Fu Massage Lotion, a blend of essential oils, is helpful for pain and itch relief and to help sores heal more quickly.

Q & A: Chronic Throat Irritation

Just wondered what your answer would be to a chronic throat irritation? I found a product not available anywhere in Canada by a Swedish company that seems to have phenomenal success rates called kan jang . I could order it from the U.S…..

Answer:
First, I would want to understand what is causing the chronic irritation. A food, beverage, chemical or other toxin, GERD (acid reflux), low grade or sub-clinical strep infection, or mucous drainage from sinus are some possibilities. As explained in my book, The Paw Paw Program, inflammation is the root cause of all disease.
So to FIX the challenge, this cause would need to be addressed. Some natural products that I know would provide relief, soothing and healing to the throat irritation are:
- Tei Fu Oil will provide instant relief – this is my take everywhere first aid kit in a bottle!
- Slippery Elm – open 2 capsules and add 4 Tbsp. hot water – and sip. If it thickens too much, add more water
- Aloe Vera Juice – slowly sip several Tablespoons per day
- Silver Gel – excellent for irritation and infection – if you can apply it to back of throat without gagging, do that, otherwise just put at least a pea size in mouth and it will slowly coat the throat area
The last two will help the body heal the irritated throat tissues – use these for daily for at least a month. If it recurs, then you really have to look for the cause again.
As for the Swedish product, sorry I cannot comment. I have used mostly Nature’s Sunshine Products since 1990, as their quality is unsurpassed and the results are excellent. Q & A: Rosacea

Is there anything you are aware of that causes rosacea? How would you treat rosacea? J.L.
Answer:
Rosacea is a chronic, inflammatory skin condition which principally affects the face. Rosacea causes facial redness and produces small, red, pus-filled pustules (bumps). The condition worsens with time if left untreated. It can be mistaken for acne or psoriasis or some other skin allergy.
Causes can be several, including infection by a parasite that is a type of mite known as demodex, that infest the hair follicles and sebaceous ducts. (Dr Mark Dahl, Chairman of the Department of Dermatology at the University of Minnesota Medical School).
Another link is to Helicobacter pylori bacteria that causes stomach ulcers. Herbal ULC-R or HP Fighter is very successful at eliminating this challenge, when taken for at least 3 bottles.
One of my Nature’s Sunshine Consultants had rosacea over ten years ago and in her research she found that the major cause of rosacea is inefficient protein digestion. This would result in undigested protein fermenting, creating toxins and causing inflammation.
The supplements that she took to cure her rosacea were:

Yes Cathy, as actinic keratosis is abnormal cell growth, Paw Paw, Asimina triloba, would help. For best results, one could take small internal dosages (2- 8 per day) as well as applying Paw Paw directly to the skin surfaces affected.
One way to do this is to open capsules of Paw Paw and mix them with Silver Shield Gel, which also will help to stop inflammation and promote healing of the lesions. Canker Sores and ulcers in mouth and throat
Canker sores, (Aphthous stomatitis) are very common and can appear on the tongue, inside of cheeks, lips, or gums. They usually begin as a little crater surrounded by slightly raised concentric rings of yellow then red. Canker sores range in size from miniscule to over two centimetres. Their healing period can take from two days to two weeks. Typical symptoms are pain, burning when eating certain foods and bad breath.
Ulcers can also develop in the esophagus, resulting in irritation or pain upon swallowing certain foods, acid and bad breath.
The cause of canker sores may be different for each individual, but generally there will be a challenge with weakened immune function as well as nutritional deficiencies of iron, B12, lysine, or folic acid. Poor oral hygiene, food allergies and sensitives (especially to chocolate, gluten, oranges, lemons, tomatoes, pineapple – all fruits which are acidic in the mouth, even though they are alkalinizing for the pH), systemic Candida, stress and fatigue may be underlying causes. It is important to determine what is causing cankers for you.
What can be done to prevent and heal canker sores?
Topically: apply directly to cankers, or other sores
Tea Tree Oil – apply 1 drop directly on sore 2-3 times per day
Silver Gel – apply a dab directly on sore 2-3 times per day
Internally:
Drink at least 3 tsp. of Chlorophyll to help alkalinize the system. Chlorophyll can also be gargled straight, then swallowed.
Liquid Silver Guard can also be swished and held in mouth, if possible, for 6 minutes, then swallowed. (Do not be put off by the label of mouthwash; this is necessary for approval by a government branch which protects pharmaceuticals in the guise of protecting the public’s health.)
It is useful to support the entire immune system when working with canker sores. Sometimes it is necessary to implement the Candida diet also. Because of this, we have noted good results when we include Bifidophilus Flora Force with the program.
HRP-C Liquid or HRP-C Capsules are beneficial for many people, especially if there is viral or bacterial involvement. This combination of herbs stimulates the immune response to fight micro-organisms . It is available in liquid or capsule form.
Drinking Aloe Vera Juice is one of the best for sores or ulcers that are not reachable, i.e. further back in mouth or in esophagus.
Overall optimization of health can be achieved by following the Four Pillars of Health as explained in Lorene Benoit’s book: The Paw Paw Program – A “Christopher Columbus” Approach to Cancer – The World IS Round and Cancer CAN Be Treated Naturally.

Industry-sponsored trials give favourable results for drugs, by burying negative trials. This is a well-documented problem, and it has been researched extensively without anybody stepping in to take effective action.
“Publication bias” — the process whereby negative results go unpublished — is endemic throughout the whole of medicine and academia; regulators have failed to do anything about it, despite decades of data showing the size of the problem.
Because researchers are free to bury any result they please, patients are exposed to harm on a staggering scale throughout the whole of medicine, from research to practice. Doctors can have no idea about the true effects of the treatments they give. Does this drug really work best, or have I simply been deprived of half the data? Nobody can tell. Is this expensive drug worth the money, or have the data simply been massaged? No one can tell. Will this drug kill patients? Is there any evidence that it’s dangerous? No one can tell.
This is a bizarre situation to arise in medicine, a discipline where everything is supposed to be based on evidence and where everyday practice is bound up in medico-legal anxiety. In one of the most regulated corners of human conduct, we’ve taken our eyes off the ball and allowed the evidence driving practice to be polluted and distorted. It seems unimaginable.
