Q & A – effects of T3, Tylenol

Question:

What side affects does taking T3’s have on your body.. I have chronic back pain and been thru so many tests 🙁  its been 3 years now              Rho, BC

Answer:

T3’s are a combination of acetaminophen, codeine, and caffeine. For severe pain, temporary, occasional use may be warranted, but long term use creates havoc on many systems of your body. Some of those are briefly listed here; more details is widely available by doing an internet search Tylenol or T3 side effects.

Nervous system: mental and respiratory depression, stupor, delirium, drowsiness, which can increase risk of falls and hip fractures in the elderly.

Gastro-intestinal system: nausea, vomiting, and constipation have been reported frequently with the use of codeine. If one needs to take these medication, take LBS, a safe herbal laxative in capsule form, or LB, in liquid form, so you do not compound the pain with toxic overload caused by constipation.

Hepatic system: The liver is the organ that takes the brunt with long term use of tylenol and related drugs. Several cases of hepatotoxicity (liver toxin overload)  from chronic acetaminophen therapy at therapeutic doses have been reported despite a lack of And risk factors for toxicity.

In addition, pain killers are not addressing the cause of your pain, and this is what you need to determine if you do not want to become a long term pharmaceutical drug addict.

General health improvements in lifestyle, such as the Four Pillars of Health suggested in Benoit’s book: The Paw Paw Program – A “Christopher Columbus” Approach to Cancer – The World IS Round and Cancer CAN Be Treated Naturally, can help.

One safe, natural anti-inflammatory, shown to be very effective in clinical studies, is Cure-Q-Min. The concentrated tumeric compounds in this product have shown benefit for joint pain and other inflammatory conditions. The side -effects of Cure-Q-Min? None! In fact, it has been shown to exert such a broad range of beneficial effects on various conditions, supports digestive and liver functions and is a blood tonic, that it has
been referred to as the “pre-clinical cure-all.” Contact our office if you would like to try this.

Are Herbs Safe to Use During Pregnancy?

This relates to a question I received about a pregnant woman being able to use herbs for sluggish bowels, aka constipation. I have added information to include the larger question of using herbs in pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Health Protection Branch Canada makes herbal companies put warnings on many herbal  labels, in fact on just about any formula that has any herb with any hormonal effect.  This encompasses a great deal of herbs, as Health Canada, doctors, and the medical industry do not understand the difference between hormones (made only by animals) and phyto hormones (found in plants). So anything they perceive to be of a hormonal nature is generally black listed for pregnancy or breastfeeding.

This is a shame, because for almost any challenge someone may experience during pregnancy, a herbal option will be far safer than any chemical drug , whether prescription or over the counter.  You can read  how adverse drug reactions have tripled between 1995 and 2005 making them the fourth leading cause of death in the North America, in a previous blog, North American Health or Sickness?

For one of the most effective herbal laxatives, LBS, or LB the liquid form, there is no warning.  Even if there was, I would still take this over any chemical based laxative because I know it works, plus I know it has several thousand years of historical safety.  I also understand how the health monopoly works, and who Health Protection Branch is protecting. Definitively NOT the public.

I have studied health full time for more than 35 years, and specifically herbs.  I know from experience of helping 10’s of thousands of people that herbs are about 160,000 times safer than any drug – prescription OR over the counter. This figure comes from  FDA statistics: 160,000 people die ANNUALLY from legal, approved drug use – not street drugs – zero die from herb use, even when not always taken as directed.

Any herbal combination that has buckthorn (Rhamnus frangula) bark, or wild yam
(Dioscorea villosa) root, or about 1000 other herbs may carry a warning – I don’t care – when from a trusted, quality controlled herbal source like NSP,  used wisely, they are safe.

Compare this info on LB-X , another safe effective herbal laxative to a one of the “safer” medical alternatives, Senokot, a drug most commonly recommended by doctors:

LB-X Herbal Combination Intestinal System #1227-4 (100)
This laxative formula has been designed to enhance intestinal functions, a frequent need in our Western society. This combination contains dietary fibre (gives bulk to the stools), iron (digestion and elimination), manganese (for every gland), silica (mineral alterative), and riboflavin (essential to the production of enzymes).

 Senokot:     http://www.drugs.com/sfx/senokot-side-effects.html

“Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction while taking senna (the active ingredient contained in Senokot) hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.

Call your healthcare provider at once if you have a serious side effect such as:

  • severe stomach pain, severe diarrhea, watery diarrhea;
  • weight loss;
  • worsening constipation after you stop taking senna;
  • enlargement of your fingers and toes;
  • low potassium (confusion, uneven heart rate, extreme thirst, increased urination, leg discomfort, muscle weakness or limp feeling); or
  • nausea, upper stomach pain, itching, loss of appetite, dark urine, clay-colored stools, jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes).

Less serious side effects of senna may include:

  • stomach cramps, bloating, gas, mild diarrhea;
  • numbness or tingly feeling;
  • joint pain; or
  • discolored urine.

This is not a complete list of side effects and others may occur. Tell your doctor, pharmacist, herbalist, or other healthcare provider about any unusual or bothersome side effect.”

Some herbal formulas DO contain senna (not a chemical form of it), but as they are properly combined and formulated, I have never had a negative experience with anyone. However, senna is NOT used in LB-X or LBS or LB because of the possibility.

More warnings, from another site on this pharmaceutical alternative, Senokot: this link is no longer working, but side effects copied from that site are below:

“Do not use laxative products (Senekot) when abdominal pain, nausea, or vomiting is present unless directed by a physician. If you have noticed a sudden change in bowel movements that persists over a period of two weeks, consult a physician before using a laxative. Do not use Laxative products for longer than 1 week unless told to do so by a doctor. Rectal bleeding or failure to have a bowel movement after use of a laxative may indicate a serious condition; discontinue use and consult your physician. If you are pregnant or nursing a baby, seek the advice of a health professional before using these products. In case of accidental overdose, seek professional assistance or contact a Poison Control Center immediately. Keep out of children’s reach.”

Yet people take these daily! A huge seller.

Many people, who need assistance to have a minimum of 1 bowel movement per day, have used LBS, LB or LB-X for more than 30 years, with NO problems. Generally with herbal laxatives, the longer you take them, the less you need – a true sign that the condition is improving. With drugs, the opposite usually occurs.

Despite all this information, people still have to make their own choices. Using herbs that have a proven history of roughly 5000 years, or synthetic drugs full of known side effects, or being constipated and internally polluting the bloodstream.

Just like the drugs, seek the advice of a health professional before using these products – but if you are concerned about your health, seek a person with a knowledge in natural remedies! Trust the experience of millennium of traditional use.

Q & A: Thyroid Cancer and Paw Paw Program

Questions:

I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer and am having surgery in September, 2012.
I will be getting my whole thyroid removed. The doctor told me I will be on synthroid for the rest of my life. I would like to know what I have to take for herbal meds to make me feel normal and healthy again. I am 49 year old weight is 159 lbs.  I believe I am a healthy person as my medical report came back as very good. Except for the cancer. I will be going for radiation as well in about 6 weeks time. Please help me get my mental health, physical health and spiritial health back on track. I have read the book (Paw Paw, the Christopher Columbus Approach to Cancer) which I found very interesting and informative. Thank You!!! So my questions are:
1) what and when can I take the Paw Paw program after my surgery. What should I take for my cancer after surgery and before and after the dreaded radiation? I don’t want this cancer to flare up elsewhere in my body.
2) Do I take anything with and when I have radiation?
3) Are any of the herbal meds going to affect my thyroid medication?
4) Where I live fresh or organic fruits and vegetables are very hard to get. Our closest city is 3 hours away.
5) I was taking curcumin 95% 2 x 2 a day. and also taking 1 tbsp of Vital greens 1 x day. I stopped taking them 7 days before my surgery. The doctors told me to go off all medication prior to surgery.
Please help me with this health issue that took over my body, mind, and spirit:
Thank You very much and can’t wait to hear from you!
( GW from CA)

Answers:

1) Post-surgery: You can start taking the Paw Paw as soon as you are eating after surgery. Follow the recommendations in the book to continue to destroy any cancer cells AND to prevent cancer flare up elsewhere. Certainly post surgery, taking high levels of anti-oxidant immune boosting herbs, such as Zambroza, called Thai Go in the U.S., speed recovery. Also be sure to get your bowels moving within 12-24 hours. If needed, herbal supplements such as LB are very safe and effective, much more so than chemical formulations like Senekot, generally used in hospitals. Both the above are liquid, and can be started as soon as one is able to consume any liquids.

2)  Please determine your need for radiation  by asking the ” Questions to Ask Your Doctor” in my book. Other than the fact that this is probably ‘accepted medical protocol’, how can they determine you will definitely need radiation until they have completed the surgery? Perhaps the surgery will be completely effective, and they are only do this as a prophylactic (preventative) measure, which is very questionable.  Please ask the questions first, as this will determine your long term health outcome. If you do decide to have radiation, then yes, I would continue the Paw Paw program. In addition, there are some natural aids to lessen the side effects of radiation. We could set up a phone consultation to discuss this before you make your decisions.

3) No, none of the herbs in the basic Paw Paw Program will affect your thyroid medication, synthroid.

4) One has to do the best that one can with what is available. Again, we can cover some of this in a phone consult, as I may have some suggestions, such as sprouting to obtain organic greens, no matter where you live, sources to get you set up to accomplish this easily.

5) Pre-surgery: Most doctors do ask people to stop all supplements before surgery, as a few such as higher dosage Vit. C , Gingko Biloba, Red Clover, may thin the blood and there is a concern of excess bleeding. As herbs and supplements are not their area of expertise, they feel safer and save time doing research by requesting stopping of ALL.  Some say 24 hours ahead, some say 3 days, yours is being very cautious with 7 days.

Get a good night’s sleep pre-surgery and visualize a positive outcome! Imagine yourself coming out of surgery with a great report that all was successful.

Q&A Natural Laxatives – a good solution

Question:

Do you have something I can take every day instead of the laxatives I am on? I have been diagnosed with a tortuous bowl, and can not go without laxatives, I am taking senna, or senokot as it’s called, seems I have to wait months for more testing. Let me know………………cheers

Answer:

Thank for contacting us with this question. Yes, There are a couple of herbal formulations that would be more effective than senekot, and would also offer longer term  healing. The challenge with senekot is that it is a synthetic compilation of a natural herb called senna. Unfortunately the other additions are all mostly toxic: D&C Yellow No. 10 Aluminum Lake, FD&C Yellow No. 6 Aluminum Lake, lecithin, polyethylene glycol, polyvinyl alcohol, talc, and titanium dioxide.

I would encourage you to look at the full fact sheets on these two herbal combinations, LBS II and BWL BLD (stands for Bowel Build) , then   make a choice. Either will help; the LBS might be better to get things moving if constipation is a problem; the BWL BLD can be better if there is alternating constipation and diarrhea. There is also one very similar to LBS, which is in Liquid extract form LB. Nature’s Sunshine has about 20 formulas to help the bowel function better, so keep in touch until we get the best plan for you. Call our office to order any of these!

For any chronic condition, you will want to follow lifestyle recommendations concerning diet, adequate water intake, exercise and emotions, as explained in Lorene Benoit’s book: The Paw Paw Program – A “Christopher Columbus” Approach to Cancer – The World IS Round and Cancer CAN Be Treated Naturally
