Tinnitus and blocked middle ear

Question:

Hi there, I have been suffering from tinnitus in one ear for a couple of years but recently an ear examination showed that my middle ear is likely blocked but I have tried everything and nothing has worked, just wondering if you have any ideas?

 

Answer:

A little difficult to answer, as you say you have tried everything and nothing has worked. I do not know if you mean everything doctors or natural health practitioners have suggested?

Has an ear specialist determined if the  middle ear is blocked with wax, mucous,  a  growth,  inflammation, or a physical deformity of the ear bones?  Knowing this could certainly make a difference in treatment options.

A few things I would suggest for any of the first 4 causes are Lobelia and CBG internally.  Lobelia is a de-obstruant, pain reliever and anti- inflammatory, with some natural anti- microbial action.  CBG contains herbs that help break down mucous, as well as fight infection, which may be an underlying cause of inflammation. It could also be help with possible allergic reactions, but again, determining the allergen is important for complete resolution.

You may have some relief with proper ear candling. If one treatment provides some relief, you would benefit from several, using 2 drops of essential oils of Lavender and Tea Tree after each session. If one treatment does not help, you would still feel better from it.

If it is a structural problem, then corrective surgery may be required.

Answer:

I have a couple of articles on my website, which I have copied direct links to, below. I did a search for excema, in top Right hand corner search bar.  You will see from these that different approaches were used – all with success, so it definitely depends on the person, their particular cause(s), their diet, level of stress, etc. Sorry there is not one simple answer, like “take this pill”. That’s how drugs are used, not natural healing, as you know.

 

Skin conditions are an external reflection of what’s going on internally.
You can begin to positively affect most health conditions by addressing the basics of digestion, assimilation and elimination. Once those are working better, and healthy dietary habits, such as those listed in my book are implemented, better health follows. The optimum dietary recommendations suggested in my Paw Paw Program that are used for cancer are the same dietary suggestions for health.

Digestion and Assimilation:

  • enzymes – either Digestive Enzymes (Food Enzymes – US)  or Garden Essence (Proactazyme – US). Both of these are full spectrum, meaning they digest proteins, starches, fats, cellulose, etc.
  • Probiotoic 11 .  Contains eleven strains to promote healthy gut  micro-biome.

Elimination:

  • making sure one has 2-3 healthy bowel movements per day. This may mean using a formula such as Bowel Build on a daily basis for several months. With a  good bowel building and toning product,  as your bowel gets healthier, you need less of it.

Q & A: Ringworm, molluscum and other skin conditions

This is a series of emails between a client and Lorene, which might be helpful to others. My responses are in italics.

It may seem frustrating to use different herbs for different conditions, but when compared to the number of multiple drugs, all with very negative side effects, this is really simple.

Our family has used all of these herbal remedies with amazing results over the last 35 years. By results I mean faster resolution, less expensive and no side negative effects than a medical prescriptive route. A few examples of successes can be found under Success Stories.

There ARE frequently positive side effects, such as a remedy effecting a benefit not being treated. Two examples:

  • using black walnut for ringworm, also helps to support the thyroid and strengthen tooth enamel.
  • using an herbal formula to help allergies and lungs will often help a sluggish colon.

June 9th: Hi Lorene,
Our family is now  living in Texas . It is pretty interesting. One of the things about living here is that the kids have gotten lots of different skin stuff that we never had in Canada. Right now my middle son has something called Molluscum Contagiosum. It is smallish white bumps on his left leg that spread and can last for a long time- they are from a virus kind of like planters warts etc. I have tried a couple different topical treatments, but nothing is getting it from its source.

I remembered that when I was in high school, (editor’s note- about 20+ yrs. ago),   I had really bad planters warts on my feet and you had given me 2 different things to take- I think one was beta carotene? And I can’t remember the other. Can you recommend something for me to try with him? I really really appreciate it!

June 10: I treated a 3 yrs. old girl with mulluscum , and yes, it is a virus. At that time I treated them by poking them with a sterilized pin (tea tree oil)  to penetrate the little white bumps, then applying tea tree oil to them. Depends on nature of your son, whether he will let you do this or not. That would be an external application.

 

Internally, your memory serves you well – it was Beta Carotene – strongest NSP product with beta carotene is now Defence Maintenance. At one time we had a straight Beta carotene, but not anymore – I think it was stopped by FDA, probably because it was too effective; certainly no safety issues!

 

The other product would have been HRP-C (for HeRPes),  which  in the US is called VS-C  (for ViruS)- concentrate capsules which can be opened, or VS-C liquid. This can be taken internally, but the liquid could also be applied externally, but it’s a little sticky.

Thank you for getting back to me! I just ordered the liquid VS-C and hopefully with tea tree that will help. I’ve tried a bunch of other stuff, and it has helped some but new ones keep popping up, he also has some staph infection happening as well- and just got over some nasty impetigo, I was getting pretty desperate so just got him some antibiotics… I don’t think he has ever been on antibiotics before. We might have to come see you when we are on the island!

Jun 15: OK keep in touch to know how the VS-C works . 
Golden Seal  (Hydrastis canadensis) is one of the best antibiotics – which I save for heavy duty infections, as it is an endangered species.  For staph,  Oregon Grape (Mahonia aquifolium) is a specific and VERY effective, and it is not endangered.  Golden Seal is available from US as a single in capsules – the strongest form. 

 

Jun 18: Thank you for the tips! That’s good to know about the Oregon grape. I didn’t end up using the antibiotics for him, just waited a couple days and it looked like it turned into Pityriasis rosea
Or something similar, which he had last summer and was misdiagnosed as ringworm. Just this time it looked kind of different so the doctor I think didn’t know what it was. Hopefully the VS-C can take care of both the moluscum & pityriasis.

Jun 18: Skin conditions are obviously hard for many doctors. I have had ringworm mis-diagnosed TWICE . The 2nd time they wanted to operate! I often find my answers upon waking, so it must come in my dreams, so once I figured it was ringworm, I applied Black Walnut liquid externally and took it internally. Something I had endured for months (on my scalp – I think from Bali) was gone in less than 2 wks.

 1- bwl -bld  –looks like it may cover bladder ?(bld) as well as bwl, but nothing mentioned.
2 – what do you suggest for
           a)trigger finger and for
           b) leg cramps beside lots of h2o and exercise. There is an Amish apple cider vinegar  product ( only from USA) and a homeo product in stores here.

BWL BLD – stands for Bowel Build.  Having the bowels work properly and be clean does have an effect on the bladder, but this formula really has nothing to do with bladder (good guess, tho’).
Cornsilk is good for bladder incontinence; Cranberry Buchu good for treatment & prevention of bladder infections; Uva Ursi good for toning and tightening, bladder cystitis.

For both trigger finger and leg cramps, one may need more Magnesium. I work with 3 types, Magnesium tablets, Magnesium Complex and Magnesium Malate. For this challenge, most people find that Magnesium tablets work best.
 
Apple cider vinegar is a good source of some minerals, especially Potassium, which can be good for cramps and spasms. Rather than ordering from the US, you may find just adding 1-3 Tsp. (5-15 ml.) pure, unpasteurized apple cidre vinegar to 1 cup room temperature or warm water and take your Magnesium, plus 1 Calcium Magnesium if needed,  with this. If this does not bring needed relief, please contact  me; there are other options. But I always like to start with the simplest first.

Q & A: Glucosamine and knee health

Hi Lorene,  A quick question for you , if you would be so kind.  I have a friend who has had knee replacement surgery that did not turn out very well.   My question is, will glucosamine help his other leg from degenerating to the point of surgery ?   I know you can’t state categorically that it will; but what do you think of its ability to prevent degeneration in an older person ??  Is it worth trying, and for how long ?

Answer:

Yes, I think it can help, depending on quality and type of glucosamine. My results with NSP Glucosamine (CA) / Glucosamine (US)  have been very good. This formula also contains Cat’s Claw, Uña de gato,  which is an excellent anti-inflammatory, so is especially effective when there is pain.

Glucosamine stimulates production of cartilage in joints.  In some people, natural production of glucosamine slows with age, leaving cartilage unable to retain water and function as a shock absorber. This inability to create glucosamine is considered a major factor in the development of osteoarthritis. On another note, I wonder what you might know about Alchemilla Vulgaris (Lady’s Mantle) to treat hot flashes – they’ve been coming and going. My friend gave me a small bottle with extract. I’ve done quite a bit of research – including on your site – where nothing came up, but I can’t seem to figure out whether it’s really worth trying it out… especially since I’ve been told by quite a few people that my liver is weak and needs more support (I’m starting ginger compresses for that) and I read that alchemilla may have deleterious effects on my liver. So confusing! Any thoughts or suggestions?

Re: your question:
Lady’s Mantle is a wonderful herb; I don’t believe it is bad for the liver, (would like to see that research!), but it is also not my first choice for hot flashes, which I do feel ARE related to liver health.

 
Alchemilla vulgaris  works more with kidney, fluid energy. I have used this herb for conditions like vaginal discharge, and menstrual flooding as it has drying, toning, strengthening properties. I have made boluses for vaginal insertion, as well as used tincture with good results. As well as for purulent wound healing.
 
Sorry I just have not had time to enter much of my collected articles on individual herbs – maybe a retirement project? In my experience, Matthew Wood, Rosemary Gladstar  or Susun Weed would be reliable sources for herbal info –  they probably all have good websites.
 
Ginger on the other hand, is definitely good for liver, and as a stimulant herb, can be good for cooling, and is anti-inflammatory. The other two herbs I rely on for hot flashes are Black Cohosh, Cimicifuga racemosa,  and Dong Quai,  Angelica sinensis. I use these in combination called Flash Ease.
 
Also there is an excellent Chinese formula which works on balancing hormones and supporting liver function. As I know you are in Bali and cannot access many of the formulas I use, here are links for these products in N.A. .  Liver Balance (US) and    BP-C (CA).
 
You may be able to find similar formulas using these herb in Bali. If you can find a local herbalist, she or he may know local herbs which will be well suited to where you are presently living.  If not, let me know if anyone coming to visit wants me to order for you to bring . Shipping to Bali might be reasonable, if capsules were taken out of the bottle and sent via any special way you might know.
 
Other simple techniques for hot flashes are drinking lots of lemon in water, very cooling; wetting your hair before you go to bed, using a cold cloth. or ice pack during night, uncovering your feet….. but liver and hormonal balance are the biggies for sure.

Q&A Paw Paw for my Cat?

My 1 1/2 ye old cat was just diagnosed with tumors around her heart. She has gone down hill very quickly in the past 2 days. I am scheduling surgery hopefully this week for their removal. I have read great things about Paw Paw for cancer in humans. Is it safe to treat my cat with it and if so how much would administer daily for a 5lb cat? I have suffered great loss through death in 2016 in my family and losing “Monkey” is more than I can bear. I hope you can help with providing your opinion on this matter. Time is of the essence as I am sure it is with everyone asking for your time. I thank you in advance for consideration.

 

Answer:

Sorry to hear about your cat, which is obviously very dear to you.  Yes, we have used Paw Paw successfully to extend life in pets. For animals, just as with humans, the chemo therapeutic effect of Paw Paw is self-regulating. For 5 lbs.  (that’s a small cat!) you could start with 1/4 of a capsule of Paw Paw Cell Reg, and repeat 4 times per day. If any nausea presents, then decrease this dosage. If no problem after the first day, then increase by 1/4 capsule per day. Any nausea indicates you have reached the tolerance dosage, so you would decrease to at the previous dose. NO.

Both the sour sop juice and papaya leaf are totally different species of the plant and totally different preparations from the Paw Paw, Latin name Asimina triloba,  that has been researched as effective for cancer. Although there is some correct information on the site you mentioned, there is also some misinformation, especially concerning the research reference.(see end of this article).

In the field of medicinal herbals, it is paramount to understand which species of a plant one is using. Many plants have the same family name, but chemical composition within a species, and within different parts of the plant, varies widely. The same name may also apply to completely different plants in different parts of the world. For example, many countries have different plants they call Heal All, which are not even in the same plant family. Latin names, or nomenclature, are the only way to scientifically identify, and reproduce the medicinal benefits.

For accuracy,  always use the Latin name of the plant, which in the case my book, The Paw Program – A “Christopher Columbus” Approach to Cancer, refers to the Paw Paw tree, Asimina triloba, standardized twig bark,  harvested at the correct time. This plant is native to the eastern U.S.

From page 90 – 91 of Lorene Benoit’s  book: ” Paw Paw is one of the most researched and most effective herbal remedies in connection with cancer. In the past 30 years research on Paw Paw has been conducted by Dr. Jerry McLaughlin and a team of researchers at Purdue University, as well as at Wayne State University.”

Over fifty bioactive compounds, called the annonaceous acetogenins, have been found in the standardized Paw Paw concentrate of this particular species of Paw Paw. The Annonaceae (custard-apple family), is very large, 130 genera and 2300 species. Phytochemical studies and, to a lesser extent, pharmacological studies on Annonaceous species have intensified in the last 15 years; this is largely due to the discovery of the Annonaceous acetogenins, a class of natural compounds with a wide variety of biological activities.

The discovery of uvaricin in 1982,7 the first of the Annonaceous acetogenins,
as an in vivo active antileukemic (P-388) agent, invigorated wide interest in this family. I agree with what the website you sent me cited, concerning why the public has not heard as much about the Paw Paw family for an effective cancer approach.

However, this site mentions tests at Purdue University showed results with graviola leaves. This is not true; graviola  (Annona muriatica) did not show the effectiveness that Paw Paw  Cell Reg (Asimina triloba) twig bark extract did, because they do not contain the acetogenin varieties or strength.

Be suspicious of sites such as Wikipedia that usually negate health benefits of any natural medicines. They are supported by global pharma interests.

Two examples:

  • I just picked some Guanabana fruit in Mexico and wanted to do a bit of research on it. This is one species of the Annoncea family, Annona muricata.  Wikipedia said it was neurotoxic and of no benefit at all for cancer, beware of charlatan claims, blah, blah…..  almost no  references to support their claim.The first scientific review I looked up presented quite a different story, including research proving no neuro-toxic effects,  in any ‘normal quantity’, with results from multiple studies.   • I then looked up Asimina triloba on Wikipedia. This is the Paw Paw that we have used as a natural chemotherapy since the extract became approved in 2003. Not one mention of medicinal benefits, although it has been used successfully since 2003. And there are hundreds, if not thousands, of references, including the 30 years of published research by Dr. Jerry McLaughlin.  A few excerpts from the first review I opened by Science Direct:

… two additional acetogenins, muricoreacin and murihexocin, showed significant cytotoxicities in six human tumor cells, including PACA-2 pancreatic carcinoma and PC-3 prostate adenocarcinoma cell lines [142].

Two annonaceous species, A. muricata and Asimina triloba (‘paw paw’),  both yield acetogenins.  Annonaceous acetogenins, bullatacin, showed 300 times the potency of taxol against L1210 murine leukemia [143,144]. Bullatacin and several other acetogenins do so by inhibiting adenosine triphosphate (ATP) production.
